2013 Goals

Again, late to the 2013 party with this post, but it's never a bad time to write down goals. 2012 was a great year. I got married to my high school sweetheart, bought our dream house back home, sold first house after doing tons of work, learned new skills, and overall had a grand ol' time. 2013 has a tough comparison, that's for sure.

2013 Goals:

1) Figure out my job situation. Whether that means working from home for my current job or finding something else to do, this is what will make or break the year.

2) Finish the new house. This is probably VERY aggressive given the current state of the property, but sometimes life surprises you. From what I can tell, the upstairs needs (mostly) paint, drywall, and flooring. The basement looks much worse but could end up coming together quickly as it is a blank slate.

3) Spend more time with family. My mom will be creating a sewing room where my younger brother's room used to be, I'd like to help her with the transformation. My dad and I need to catch up on three years' worth of golf. And obviously, my wife and I should do our best to enjoy the first full calendar year of marriage.

4) Get back into cycling. Before starting my first real job, I rode nearly 3,000 miles on my bike. I loved it. I was in great shape and got to enjoy the countryside. Being back home with a simpler, slower life, I'd like to get back on the bike.

5) Earn $5,000 in dividends. I will need to juice my portfolio's yield and add more funds, but I think this goal is attainable.

So there you have it. My 2013 goals. I don't think any of them are unrealistic, but all will be a challenge.

  1. Headed Home,

Wow. You had a great 2012. Congratulations on the marriage and the new home. That's really exciting! It must feel great to be back home, surrounded by family. I know how it feels to miss people. I currently live in Florida, and my entire family/friend network lives in Michigan.

I wish the best with the job search or starting your own business, or whatever you decide to do.

Hopefully 2013 is just as great as 2012 for you.

    Best wishes!

    1. DM,

It will feel great to be living back home full-time within the next few months. For now, the weekends are wonderful. There's an odd peace that comes over me being in my hometown, surrounded by family and friends.

And if you have any ideas about a business to start, I'm all ears.

      Thanks for the encouragement.

  2. That was a busy 2012! I also got married last year but no house yet for us. Hope you can get back into cycling. I need to get a bike rack for the car and get my mountain bike fixed up so I can start riding it after work.

    Have a great 2013!

    1. Congrats on getting hitched this year too! Good luck finding a bike rack and installing it. I drive a truck, so no need for a rack. If you like to ride, there's no comparison between a mountain bike and a road bike.

      Enjoy 2013!
